1/26/2024 0 Comments Ring puts an eero router newThere are better systems out there.Ring Edge local video processing and storage One of the most reliable smart home products I own. Unfortunately we are all held hostage to our own governments’ regulations.Īll that said, I love my Ring Alarm System. I always feel bad for those of you across the pond. Again I agree one size doesn’t fit all, just throwing things out the for folks to consider. Though with Matter and Thread becoming reality this year it’s more likely than ever most smart home devices will no longer require internet and will become local devices. I’m not sure how that helps routing? A backup for a modem would be more beneficial. Admittedly I like Rings backup cellular capability. If one breaks or becomes antiquated, you’re stuck replacing both. In addition you put yourself in a position we did with combo modem/routers, TV/DVD’s, etc. That said, most modern meshes are easy to set up even for beginners. I agree there will always be the first time buyer who lacks the knowledge to use complex router capability. Once you have 500mb plus coming in you should never really have any “speed” issues as it were. Although a speed test may show 900mb that has to be shared across your whole estate. As I say I haven’t really done a deep dive into it yet, but your current setup works the same. The pro is WiFi 6 also, so it will do a better job at providing consists speeds to devices. Your router shares that speed over all of your devices, so you could have 10 devices using 100mb at once. I have 1gig but not one single device in my house needs that speed or will even come close to use it. However as I mentioned below it shouldn’t limit your overall speeds in theory. I haven’t done a deep dive into the pro as it’s not available in the UK yet. So basically you will be paying for full internet backup but not actually getting it, also you are paying for ring edge and not getting it. The other gen alarm will give cellular backup for the alarm without replacing your existing setup, however you will still pay the full price $20 a month. You can choose what devices use the cellular backup if the internet goes down. This also means we won't allow you to share your link on the sub either sorry.
